Roseleaf raspberry forms a prickly clumping thicket that often extends along the edge of the rainforest. The attractive white flowers are usually followed by masses of tasty red raspberry fruit. Prickly shrubs like this are not so popular with bushwalkers, but are crucial for the protection of wildlife such as whipbirds, bandicoots and potoroos. A study of brush turkey chicks in Mary Cairncross found their ability to reach the safety of the raspberry thickets after hatching is crucial to their survival.
