Precious Plants
Red lilly-pilly
Syzygium hodgkinsoniae

Although many lilly-pillys are now common in our gardens, this spectacular flowering plant is endangered and very rarely seen beyond undisturbed rainforests. The large honey-scented flowers are followed by a glossy red fruit up to 40mm in diameter and can be seen anywhere between August and December. This lilly-pilly has a tropical appearance with its large round leaves and, although a sparse shrub or small tree in the rainforest, they can make an attractive shrub in the garden.
