Ecological Education
Welcome from our Education Officer
“Hello – and welcome to our ecological education pages. Whether you are a visiting school group, a wildlife enthusiast or a local family on a day trip, our Rainforest Education Centre will have something for you to discover.
The Education Centre is staffed by volunteers who are happy to provide friendly advice and information on the Reserve. When visiting the reserve please ask our volunteer staff for fact sheets on the Reserve, its history, flora and fauna or fungi.
Come and enjoy the rainforest – we look forward to meeting you!”
Rainforest Discovery Centre
Join the many visitors who have discovered the new fun,
exciting and interactive educational information available throughout the Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Stroll through the Habitat rooms and find some of the
hidden plants and animals of each ecosystem.
Families delight in discovering the shapes, textures and
colours of plant and animal specimens while using the microscopes or magnifying wall. If you are lucky you may
even see a Butterfly emerge from its chrysalis as part of the current “Creepy Crawlies of Mary Cairncross” display theme.
Rainforest Tracks
Take a relaxing stroll along the cool, shaded tracks in the forest to discover some of the interesting and exciting plants and animals that make their home in this reserve. We are very proud of our boardwalks, viewing platforms and educational signs, so visit and learn more about this special and unique rainforest remnant.
Our talented volunteer guides conduct guided rainforest tours for school and other groups. Please allow at least three weeks notice to arrange guided tours. Special events and educational talks are held throughout the year, but make sure you book in advance to guarantee your place!
