Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve

New full-colour book published on MCSR Birds

18th April 2012

The Management Committee is proud to announce the release of its new book titled Birds of the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve. This book is a full-colour guide to the 106 species found at the Reserve. The innovative format provides information on each species identifying characteristics and behaviour complimented by superb natural photographs.

The 136 page book contains background information on the Reserve and its bird population followed by six chapters with concise descriptions. The text and photographs have been supplied by a group of experienced bird watchers led by Greg Czechura from the Qld Museum. With a size of 23 cmX 16 cm, the book will be useful for the general public or as a reference book for bird admirers.

The book was launched at the Reserve by the Mayor of Sunshine Coast Council, Cr Bob Abbot. He observed that MCSR provides crucial habitat and a movement corridor for many colourful and charismatic birds, including those with distinctive calls such as the Paradise Riflebird. Further, the abundance of bird species at the Reserve attracts bird enthusiasts from across the globe.

The Management Committee has produced this first book in a series with the support of the Qld Museum, Sunshine Coast Council and Friends of Mary Cairncross Association Inc. Retailing at the economical price of $25, the book is available from the Education Centre (open every day) at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve.
